Winos on the Street

I did, in fact, go see Noam Chomsky last night. It was pretty cool. A lot of what he said, I already knew. I'm pretty sure most of the people there did. He was just reminding everybody about how bad it really is. He made an effort to give people hope, but he based a lot of said hope on the notion of a democratic process somehow appearing in this country. Now, I won't say that it can't, but I doubt that we'll see a democratic election in my lifetime. At least, not so long as we use the 'election' system they have in place for us. When a system is as heavily rigged as ours, the only cure is scrapping it and starting over. Like that'll ever happen... sigh.

He did give me one glimmer of hope. If we pull out of Iraq, the powers that be in this country will have lost, and lost badly. We likely won't stay number one, or even in the top 5. China will have lots of oil from Iran, newly autonomous Iraq, and probably Saudi Arabia soon enough. They'll be the top dog to beat, and Hugo Chavez will be laughing his head off.

I had other things to say, but with my final day of Thursday classes tomorrow, I have a lot of work to do. Good night, folks.
