Serenity

So I neglected on Tuesday to talk at all about my experience seeing Serenity. You know my feelings on this show-turned-movie by now, and I finally had them addressed when I saw this movie. There were times when my jaw hung open for five solid minutes at a time. It maintains the humor and grit of the show, but with far more freedom to show ambitious takes on the future. I don't know if it did a good job representing the story thus far for newcomers, though. How could I know?

I'm trying to take a break from the news, as I'm starting to recognize the futility in observing the endlessly repeated cycle of news story from start to... well, obsolescence. A little murmer on Rove/Plame (though really on jailbird turned songbird Judy Miller who stepped out of prison and into a book deal). A snickering of DeLay. A dash of Katrina. This Miers business has me all up in arms though. Typical Bush cronyism (I love how that's become another one of these infinitely repeated buzz words), the only support for her he can come up with in the absence of a judicial record? Her faith. Right on, George. Keep hope alive!

Bah. It's all too much for this grizzled liberal crackpot.
