Occupied

Occupied

Grey Area

So I don't hate America. I really don't. I believe that we are a people who believe, at least on the surface, in justice, in fairness, in compassion. I believe that we treat people better here than in many other places. I believe that we are, at heart, not bad people.

But I have no such illusions about the people who we've "elected" to run our government. Some of them are working to improve our lives, I'm sure. But for the most part, the people "leading" this country are greedy, manipulative, and violent. That kind of person can get himself elected, since he doesn't play by the rules. That person can avoid persecution, because he persectues instead.

I don't think Osama Bin Laden is a good man. I don't think he's any better than our leaders. They both kill innocent people because they can't kill eachother. But Osama says some powerful shit that I think is worth considering.

What's wrong with America today is that we're so full of our righteousness, our right to do this and our right to do that, our right to have oil, because what are we supposed to do, freeze? So full of righteousness that people who haven't read the transcript of his speech will instantly scream villain on punditry shows. So full of righteousness that we don't question why so many people died, we just accept that it's because terrorists hate freedom. That we were innocent victims. That it's because evil hates good.

Evil doesn't hate good, it exploits good. And good lets it happen, because GOOD is DUMB.

Seriously, how can someone refuse to listen to Bin Laden's speech, but tune in to Bush's State of the Union? They both kill civilians, they both care more about their agendas than about the cost.

If you're a reactionary, you've stopped reading. "He compares Bush to BIN LADEN?!" But that's what reactionaries do. They stop reading. They stop listening. They don't want to hear it.

Never stop reading. Ignorance is a slow death.
